In my last blog I dealt with how the exponential method for oneness makes submission in a marriage a blessing and empowering. In this blog I will deal with why so few couples use the exponential method/model for oneness. The apostle Paul expressed the core reason why the exponential method for oneness is so seldom used. Noticed what he said in Galatians 5:24:
5:24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Emphasis supplied).
The reason the exponential method for oneness is so seldom seen or used is because it is based on God’s agape love. Therefore it requires that we allow Jesus to crucify our flesh daily so we can walk in the power of God’s Spirit rather than in the power of our flesh. In other words, the exponential model for oneness requires us to surrender our will to Jesus daily so we can experience and express God’s selfless love: Without daily surrender of the will to Jesus the only love we can express is selfish and needy because it is based on the natural affections and lust of our sinful flesh. This is why we are told in I John 4:7&8:
4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. (Emphasis supplied).
This tells us that God is love: Therefore, only those that are born of God daily can experience and express love because true love is of God.
The good news is this:
You don’t have to depend on another human to experience the kind of love that will make you complete and satisfy the desires of your heart because there is no human love that can make you complete. The only love that can make you complete resides in God through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit and you can begin to experience God’s love TODAY. The apostle Paul gives us the key on how to experience God’s fulfilling love more and more in Galatians 6:7-9 where he said:
6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. (Emphasis supplied).
Paul expresses here the law of sowing and reaping. It is a law because it is guaranteed to work. All of our lives we have been sowing to the flesh by depending on another human being to make us complete and we have been reaping the result: A steady erosion of God’s selfless love that has not only corrupted the sacred institution of marriage but has caused a steady downward slide in all of life because life is built on relationships: The more loving relationships we have the more we enjoy our lives. The only way to stop the corruption and start the healing is to start sowing to the Spirit.
In my next blog I am going to give some practical steps on how to start sowing to the Spirit and begin reaping life everlasting. Until then I leave you with this portion of scripture to ponder and pray over.
6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I Timothy 6:12 (Emphasis supplied).
