Entering God’s Rest Part 5
I ended last week’s blog by stating this very important principle:
When we are resting, God is working: When we are working, God is resting.
To fully understand this principle we must understand how we were created by God on the 6th day of creation week. In Genesis 1:26&27 we are told:
1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 1:27 So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. (Emphasis supplied).
God created mankind in His own image, which means that Adam and Eve were of a higher order than the rest of creation: They were to have dominion over all the earth and everything in it. Genesis 2:7 tells us what God did that made mankind in His image. It says:
And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Emphasis supplied).
It wasn’t until God breathed the breath of life into Adams’s nostrils that he became a living soul. It was the breath of life that God breathed into Adam’s nostril’s that not only made mankind a living soul but it also made mankind in the image of God. So the question is this:
What is the breath of life that makes mankind a living soul in the image of God?
I Corinthians 6:19&20 says:
6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. (Emphasis supplied).
This lets us know that the breath of life is the Holy Spirit. Therefore, when God breathed into the nostrils of Adam the breath of life He not only breathed into them the spark of life like the rest of creation, God breathed into Adam’s nostrils the source of life and mankind became the Temple of the Holy Ghost. As long as Adam and Eve where temples of the Holy Ghost they walked in the power of the Spirit of God which was in them: This is what gave them dominion over all the earth. As long as Adam and Eve walked in the power of the Spirit of God which was in them they were at rest because God was working in them and through them to accomplish His purpose. In other words, as long as Adam and Eve were temples of the Holy Spirit they did not have to work: They could rest because God was working in them both to will and to do of His good pleasure (see Philippians 2:12&13). To keep mankind in this state of constant rest God created the 7th day. Genesis 1:31&2:1-3 says:
1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, [it was] very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. (Emphasis supplied).
Next week we are going to begin to discuss the key role the 7th day Sabbath plays in entering God’s rest. In the meantime continue to read Hebrews 4:1-11.
