God-Size Success Part 8
I have talked about the mindset we must have in order to experience God-size success. I have also covered the 3 major principles of ministry mindset. I will now use the life of Joseph to show how the 3 major principles of ministry mindset work in real life.
The first principle can be seen in the first major test of Joseph’s life. Notice what that test was:
37:26 And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit [is it] if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? 37:27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he [is] our brother [and] our flesh. And his brethren were content. 37:28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty [pieces] of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt. Genesis 37:26-28 (Emphasis supplied).
Joseph was one of the 12 sons of Jacob from which the 12 tribes of Israel were named. But Joseph was hated by his 10 older brothers for 2 main reasons:
- Joseph was his father’s favorite son and Jacob made that very clear to his other son’s by giving Joseph special treatment, one of which was a coat of many colors (see Genesis 37:3&4).
- Joseph had a God inspired dream that he would be put in a position of superiority over his brothers as well as his father Jacob (see Genesis 37:5-11).
For these two reasons Joseph’s 10 older brother’s hated him to the point that they planned to kill him. Notice what we are told in Genesis 37:18-20:
37:18 And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. 37:19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. 37:20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams. (Emphasis supplied).
We see here that the brother’s original plan was to kill him. However, that was not God’s plan for Joseph’s life and God’s plan will always override anybody else’s plan for your life as long as you surrender your life daily to His plan. This is exactly why we are told:
8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose. 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God [be] for us, who [can be] against us? Romans8:28-31 (Emphasis supplied).
This is the first principle of ministry mindset. It tells us when we surrender our lives to God’s call to ministry everything that God allows to happen to us is predestined by God to work to accomplish His purpose for our lives. However, without ministry mindset we will never realize God’s purpose because it requires that we surrender our fleshly purpose, which basically is to glorify self, to God’s higher purpose, which is to glorify Him. In other-word’s, as long as we live with a job or career mindset we will never reach God-size success because it requires that we live according to His purpose which is ministry (see Matthew 6:24-34).
Next week I am going to show how Joseph had to adopt the ministry mindset and apply the 1st principle. Until then I leave you with this portion of scripture to ponder and pray over:
50:15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him. 50:16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying, 50:17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him. 50:18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we [be] thy servants. 50:19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for [am] I in the place of God? 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; [but] God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as [it is] this day, to save much people alive.
