13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six. Revelation 13:15-18 (Emphasis supplied).
Revelation 13:15-18 tells us 2 very important things concerning the mark of the beast. First it tells us the issue of receiving the mark will be over worship. Everyone will be required by law to worship in a certain manner under the threat of not being able to buy or sell (v.13) and eventually the threat of death (v.15). In order to inforce that law everyone will be required to receive a mark in their right hand and in their foreheads (v.16&17). This mark will clearly identify those who choose to abide by the law of the land verses those who chose to abide by the law of God (see Revelation 14:1&12). In other words, those who choose to worship God will have to do as Jesus said in Luke 9:23-25:
9:23 And he said to [them] all, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 9:24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 9:25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? (Emphasis supplied).
Now what does all this have to do with confession of sin and daily surrender? It has everything to do with confession of sin and daily surrender because only those who confess their sin will take up his/her cross daily and lose their lives for Jesus sake. They will do this because they agree with the conviction of the Holy Spirit and they realize the only way to escape the condemnation of sin is to surrender all to Jesus on a daily basis. The apostle Paul explains what happens when we do this in Galatians 2:20. He says:
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
This tells us that those who confess their sin and surrender all to Jesus daily will no longer walk by the power of the flesh (not I), they will walk by the power of Jesus living in them (but Christ liveth in me). Therefore, the faith they now live by is the faith of Jesus. This is the faith that conquers the world. I John 5:4&5 says:
5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, [even] our faith. 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? (Emphasis supplied).
Only the faith that is born of God as a result of daily surrender to Jesus can resist receiving the mark of the beast. This is why we are told in Revelation 14:12:
Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. (Emphasis supplied).
Next week we are going to look at the second important thing Revelation 13:15-18 tells us about the mark of the beast and why living by the faith of Jesus is the only way to resist receiving it. Until then I leave you with this text of scripture to ponder and pray over:
8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 8:10 And if Christ [be] in you, the body [is] dead because of sin; but the Spirit [is] life because of righteousness. 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 8:12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Romans 8:8-13 (Emphasis supplied).
Please read Romans 8:1-7 for the most complete understanding of why it so important to be in Christ through daily surrender.
