Present Truth Part 41
And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. Revelation 14:8
To fully understand the 2nd angel’s message we must read what we are told in Revelation 18:1-4 which reads as follows:
18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. 18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
When one reads the 17th and 18th chapter of Revelation it becomes clear that Babylon the great is a religious organization that is used by the devil to cause the falling away from truth described by the apostle Paul in II Thessalonians 2:1-12. However, what most people fail to realize is that Babylon is more than a religious organization that is in opposition to God’s true Church: More importantly, Babylon is way of thinking that results in deciding whom you will serve or worship 24/7. Therefore, you don’t have to physically be in Babylon to be of Babylon. What decides whether or not you are of Babylon is whether or not you are drinking the wine (lie) of Babylon. So the key to coming out of Babylon is to stop drinking the wine or living by the lie of Babylon: I emphasize the word stop because we have all been made drunk by Babylon’s wine at one time or another (see Revelation 14:8 & Revelation 18:3).
Now it is true that Babylon is the mother of lies but her wine is based on the lie that is the root of all evil (lies) because it leads one to believe that they are serving or worshiping God when in truth they are serving or worshiping mammon. Notice what we are told in I Timothy 6:3-5:
6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, [even] the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 6:7 For we brought nothing into [this] world, [and it is] certain we can carry nothing out. 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. (Emphasis supplied).
Verse 6 tells us that the doctrine that teaches us how to live godly is, godliness with contentment is great gain. In other words, in order to live godly we must learn how to be content with the single pursuit of obtaining God’s righteousness: This must be our only purpose in life: To live for any other purpose in life would result in ungodly or sinful living.
Satan understands this principle or truth very clearly: He understands that you cannot serve two masters and that you either serve and love one or the other 24/7 (see Matthew 6:24). So in order to get the world to love and serve him Satan came up with the master plan to get the whole world to believe the lie that, gain is godliness (v.5). This was truly Satan’s master plan because this plan has worked extremely well.
I say this because I don’t know anyone that is born of a woman that has not believed that it is godly to work for the purpose of gaining money for at least 6 days of the week. Even the most devout followers of God interpret the 4th commandment in a way that says it is godly to serve mammon 6 days as long as we stop for 1 day to serve God and God alone.
It is exactly because the world has been deceived by this lie (wine of Babylon) that the 1st angel’s message is a call to worship the God of creation by living with the single purpose of glorifying Him by revealing His righteousness in our lives (see Revelation 14:6&7).
In order to live this way we must come out of Babylon and in order to come out of Babylon we must stop living by the lie of Babylon. This is why the apostle Paul went on to say I Timothy 6:9-11 these words:
6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and [into] many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. (Emphasis supplied).
The only way to flee the love of money and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness is to take up our cross daily and lose our lives daily in order to gain the life of Jesus (see Luke 9:23&24 ): Then we will possess the faith and righteousness of Jesus because we will be able to say:
2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness [come] by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
This is what the 4th commandment demands of us: It demands us to come out of Babylon by remembering that our single purpose in life is walk in the holiness and righteousness of God 24/7. In order to do this we must surrender our will to Jesus daily so He can give us more and more of His faith, His righteousness and His Spirit as He crucifies more and more of our flesh: The more Jesus crucifies our flesh the more we enter His rest and keep the 4th commandment.
Therefore, the more we keep the 4th commandment, the more we possess and keep the faith of Jesus: The more we possess and keep the faith of Jesus the more we keep the commandments of God. The more we keep the commandments of God the more we are sealed by God’s Spirit: This is why we are told in Revelation 14:12:
Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
Next week we are going to look at the 3rd and final installment of the Present Truth gospel for today as given by the 3rd angel and see how a correct understanding and keeping of the 4th commandment keeps us from receiving the mark of the beast. Until then I leave you with this portion of scripture to ponder and pray over:
17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by [that] man whom he hath ordained; [whereof] he hath given assurance unto all [men], in that he hath raised him from the dead.
