58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own] words: 58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken [it] Isaiah 58:13-14 (Emphasis supplied).
In Isaiah 1:12-18 the prophet Isaiah rebuked God’s people concerning the way they kept God’s Sabbaths. Notice what He said in verse 13:
Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; [it is] iniquity, even the solemn meeting. (Emphasis supplied).
The tragedy is that God’s chosen people prided themselves on the fact that they were better than all the other nations because they kept the 7th day Sabbath holy: Like the Laodicean church in Revelation 3:14-21 they felt rich, increased with goods and in need of nothing because of their good works and did not know how utterly wretched they were in God’s eyes. To correct this situation God inspired Isaiah to write Isaiah 58:13&14 which goes straight to the heart of the problem of self-righteousness. This is why Isaiah started by saying:
If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath (Emphasis supplied).
Isaiah then goes on to say what he means by that when he said:
not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own] words: (Emphasis supplied).
The problem was not that the people were not trying to keep the Sabbath holy; the problem was that they were trying to keep the Sabbath holy in their own strength. Everything they did to keep it holy was motivated and empowered by their sinful flesh. The things they came up with to do to make the Sabbath holy or special were their own ways and their own pleasures no matter how good they were. The words they choose to speak were their own words no matter how much Bible they quoted.
In the 14th verse Isaiah tells them what they must do in order to stop doing their works and make the Sabbath a delight, holy of the Lord. He said:
Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken [it] Isaiah 58:13-14 (Emphasis supplied).
The only way to way to make the 7th day a delight, Holy of the Lord is to delight yourself in Jesus who is the Lord of the Sabbath (see Mark 2:27-28): The only way to delight yourself in Jesus is to surrender your will to His control daily. Then Jesus will cause you to ride upon the high places of the earth because He will work in you both to will and to do of God’s good pleasure: Then and only then will the Sabbath be holy of the Lord.
In other words: Without daily surrender of our wills to Jesus we cannot keep the 4th commandment: Without keeping the 4th commandment we cannot keep the other 9 commandments (see Matthew 5:19 & James 2:8-12). This is why the apostle Paul said:
2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness [come] by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Galatians 2:20-21 (Emphasis supplied).
This is also why the 3rd angel says:
Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Revelation 14:12 (Emphasis supplied).
In summary: The reason Jesus has delayed His 2nd coming is because His people have not yet to entered into His Sabbath rest because of self-righteousness. We have been frustrating God’s grace by focusing on keeping the commandments which is (the what) instead focusing on keeping the faith of Jesus which is (the way). It is because of this that the holiness and joy of God’s holy day has been covered up by the foot of those who profess to keep it. God is waiting for His people to take their foot off His holy day by repenting of their sin of self-righteousness (see Revelation 3:14-22). Then the Sabbath will be what God intends it to be: A sign that it is God that sanctifies you (see Exodus 31:13).
This is the final installment to answer the question:
Does walking in holiness 24/7 negate our obligation to keep the 7th Day Sabbath holy in a special manner and if not what are some of the things we can or must do in order to keep it different from the other 6 days of holiness?
Next week I am going to focus on answering this question:
How do I surrender my will to the Jesus daily and how do I know that I have surrendered all when I surrendered my will daily?

Until then I leave you with this portion of scripture to ponder and pray over:
4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 4:9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God [did] from his. 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. Hebrews 4:8-11 (Emphasis supplied).
