One of the most misunderstood scriptures in all of the Word of God is James 2:19&20. This is because it supplies us with a very important truth about genuine faith that the enemy of souls does not want us to know and that is: Faith works. The problem has been that we have always separated faith and works and made them antagonistic to each other but nothing is further from the truth. Hebrews 11:6 not only informs us that genuine faith works, it also lets us know that there is a work of faith. It says:
But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Emphasis supplied)
Hebrews 11:6 tells us that genuine faith works because it believes that God is. This means more than just an intellectual assent to the fact that God exist. It means that we believe that He is the great I AM, the source of all our joy and pleasures: The solution to all our problems. This is why it doesn’t stop by just saying we must believe that God is, it also says we must believe that God is, a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. In other words, genuine faith believes that God is the reward that we desire. This belief is what makes our faith work. When we believe that God is the reward we desire we will do the work of faith and diligently seek him. When we do the work of faith and diligently seek him we will begin to experience the truth expressed in Psalms 16:11:
Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore. (Emphasis supplied)
The reason we do not experience the truth expressed in Psalms 16:11 is because we do not do the work of faith and diligently seek God: The reason we do not do the work of faith and diligently seek God is because we do not believe, He is. Colossians 2:8-10 explains why we do not believe: God is. It says:
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: (Emphasis supplied)
Have you been spoiled by the philosophies and traditions of mankind. Have you been duped by the fundamental teachings of this world which leads you to believe that you can find the joy and happiness you desire in the people places and things of this world rather than in Jesus? Can you honestly say that you are experiencing the truth expressed in Psalms 16:11 more and more each day?
Next week we are going to expose the lies the devil has been using to spoil God’s people. Until then, ask God to reveal to you if you have been spoiled by the lies of Satan and if so, how.
