I ended last week’s blog with this summary statement:
The reason we do not experience the truth expressed in Psalms 16:11 is because we do not do the work of faith and diligently seek God: The reason we do not do the work of faith and diligently seek God is because we do not believe, He is. Colossians 2:8-10 explains why we do not believe: God is. It says:
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: (Emphasis supplied)
This statement tells us that faith works because it believes all the fullness of God dwells in Jesus; therefore those who have genuine faith diligently seek Jesus because they believe their only hope of being complete is in him. Colossians 2:8 also lets us know the reason our faith does not work is because it has been corrupted by the philosophies and traditions of man which are based on the rudiments (fundamental teachings) of this world which do not lead us to Jesus. This is why we are told in I John 2:15&16:
Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. (Emphasis supplied).
The fundamental teachings of this world are based on the lie that the people places and things of this world: The things our eyes can see, our flesh desires and our pride seeks after are what makes us complete. When we believe this lie we cannot love believe and love the truth that comes from God because it tells us that we are complete in Jesus and Jesus alone. Jesus expressed this truth more fully when He said:
And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. John 5:38-40 (Emphasis supplied).
The gospel is summed up in these 2 words: JESUS SAVE. All of scripture flows from this truth: JESUS SAVES. Everything in the Bible is telling us what Jesus has done, is doing now and what He will do in the future in order to save mankind. Therefore, all the devil has to do to corrupt the truth is put mankind in Jesus’ place and make the people, places, and things of this world the Savior.
For instance, Colossians 2: 9&10 tells us that everything we need and desire to be complete is found in an intimate relationship with Jesus because all the fullness of God dwells in him. However, God’s people do not really believe that because we have been spoiled by the philosophies and traditions of mankind that says we cannot be complete until we are in an intimate relationship with our soul-mate or our significant other, both of which are human. This lack of faith causes us to corrupt God’s word when we interpret Genesis 2:18 which says:
And the LORD God said, [It is] not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. (Emphasis supplied).
Next week I am going to deal with how we have corrupted this scripture by putting mankind in God’s place. In the meantime I encourage you to start a discussion with your family and friends about what we are told in Genesis 2:18 and see if the conclusion(s) you come to line up with what we are told in Colossians 2:9&10.
